Bio
I studied at the University of Minnesota where I received a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in studio arts and art history. After graduation, I integrated my practice with cultural influences while living in Tucson, New York City, Tokyo, and Paris. Lasting impressions include Southwest desert landscapes, New York street art, contemporary Japanese calligraphy and ikebana, and Japanese and French contemporary art scenes.
I worked as the Hands-on Learning Facilitator at the Walker Art Center in the Education Public Programs Department for 20 years. In 2009, I co-founded the Walker’s Contemporary Journeys program for people with memory loss and their care partners.
Currently, I’m a teaching artist facilitating artmaking and gallery visits for groups of all ages and abilities.
Workshops and summer camps include the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Can Can Wonderland, and long-term care facilities.
Testimonials
Ilene Mojsilov is an artist and educator who connects her own understanding and deep experience as a visual artist to her work with others. Ilene sets the stage to assist her students in finding their way into the creative process, tapping their imaginations as she connects them with culture(s), history and the contemporary art world. Her unique perspective is one of a facilitator of creative experience and unique learning that develops and meets the needs all of those she works with.
Lynda Monick-Isenberg, Artist & Educator
Ilene Krug Mojsilov is an artist and museum educator who possesses unique skills and tools to connect people with their creative selves. She engages others to look deeply at art in museums and galleries, leads them to find the points where they link what they see with their own experiences and ideas, and presents opportunities for responding through their own artmaking.
I have collaborated with Ilene as Art Lab coordinator and Hands-on Learning Facilitator at the Walker Art Center. She has worked with a wide range of audiences – from K-12 students to teens and adults. She teaches people of all ages and skill levels with understanding, challenges, and her own sense of play. I have seen Ilene bring her deep knowledge of art materials and concepts to create customized experiences in hands-on artmaking that links to school curricula. People in Ilene’s classes are successful because she meets them where they are.
Because of the impacts of Covid 19 on our ability to gather together, Ilene has recently transitioned to distance learning through virtual art experiences. But she has not lost her own style and enthusiasms as an educator. She is committed to bringing out the creativity in us all at this time when we all need it more than ever.
